Katandewan’s travel blog entry: "On Thursday we caught the bus from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka at the south of the Malaysian Peninsular. We'd had a guest house recommended to us, by our unbelievably helpful hostel manager in KL, called Eastern Heritage. Its quite an impressive building, a little bit run down but with a lot of charm and the staff were very accommodating. Melaka is a UNESCO world heritage site and was a major trading post in Malaysia between 1500 and around 1700, during which time it was colonized by the Dutch,Portuguese and finally the British before its commercial fortunes took a turn for the worse. Unsurprisingly there are a number of museums that we made our way round, the best being the maritime museum that's housed within the replica of an old Portuguese trading ship. Our biggest problem in Melaka, given that the bulk of its tourism comes from Malaysian holidaymakers, was finding somewhere to eat. We must have spent a good 40mins to an hour wandering around restaurants when we first got there trying to find somewhere that could cook food which in some way, shape or form did not contain fish or shrimp paste... Luckily we did manage to find a couple of places to eat and we still haven't had a meal in Malaysia that wasn't really good.
