Called "street level crime mapping" by the police, this radical new system shows recorded crime data for England and Wales. Helping to launch this innovative new website was British Home Secretary, Theresa May who claimed that it would enable local residents to assist the police in their bid to fight crime in their areas. [Theresa May, British Home Secretary]: "The government believes in transparency and people being able to hold their public services to account. What this would be to give people real information of what is going on in crime and anti-social behavior crucially for the first time in their local area and they will then be able to speak with the police, to look at the priorities the police are giving to this. Together they will be able to fight crime." Visitors to the site simply have to type in a postcode which reveals a map of the chosen area showing the number and type of crimes reported. But the new system hasn’t found popularity with everyone as revealed by Victim Support Chief Executive, Javad Khan.
