In this video, I describe my general set up for my newborn Colombian Red Tail Boa, also known as a Common Boa. I talk about the cage size now, and what is needed for adults, the heating, ambient temperature, substrate, etc. One thing I didn’t mention is that CRTB's need 12 hour photo period (12 hours of day, 12 hours of night), because Colombia is very close to the Equator. So I try my best to turn off all light sources (and the heat emitter, but not the belly heat) for 12 hours. Newborn boas need to feed once every 4-5 days, and ALWAYS feed the same size (no bigger!) as the snake's widest part of the body (the girth). This is true for feeding any type of snake! Also, I feed my snakes frozen/thawed only, because I am well aware of the dangers of feeding live prey.. if you don't know the dangers I suggest you do some research. This snake will get 7-8 feet long if it is a male, and 9-10 feet as a female. Anyways, hope you enjoy, feel free to ask me any questions, and her name is Naoki! :)
