We had to wait an hour before we could go on the guided tour. This consisted of a 600 metre walk to get to the main cave, and then further on another 4 areas of interest. It is called cave of hands because it has hundreds of hand prints painted on the walls. They date from around 7000 BC And do vary over three different styles covering different time frames. It seems that 96% of the hands are left hands and one very odd one is a six-fingured hand print. Possible the result of incestuous marriages. As well as the hands there are lots of pictures of guanaco being hunted, both with spears and bolo's( the stone balls tied to a length of rope.). Again we were told how lots of the paintingsshow pregnant guanaco and two actually show the baby guanaco inside the mother. The baby is painted in white on top of the red mother. They also show several different lizards and in the latest stage some abstract designs. In all it took about 90 minutes to go round and see, whih combined with the views of the canyon made it well worth while. Driving on from there we went about another 40 kms and found a place where we could pull off the road and park for the night whilst surrounded by sheep." Read and see more at: www.travelpod ...
