On May 25 2008 NASAs Phoenix Lander will enter the Martian atmosphere and land on its polar ice-cap in the last phase of a historic mission to investigate Mars past by digging down into the soil and ice - something that has never been done before. Scientists hope that the mission will reveal a great deal about Mars geological history but the biggest question they seek to answer: was Mars ever a watery world?
