an albuquerque family says middle school gossip has taken a serious toll ... nearly ruining their reputation, and leading to a c-y-f-d investigation. misa maruyama is here to show us what’s happening. misa? the parents of the jimmy carter middle school student say their daughter's classmatspread a cruel lie — a lie that almost tore their family apart. this albuquerque father says his daughter's classmate spread a vicious rumor -- that she was being molested by her parents. he was ready to go on camera but we're concealing his identity for his daughter's sake. he says the classmate shared the story to a teacher at jimmy carter middle school, which led to a two week c-y-f-d investigation. he says what the teacher didn't know ... is his daughter and the other student recently got into a fist fight at school. i understand what you mean about a kid thinking this is going on and trying to do good by reporting it. she had no good intentions. when a kid spreads a rumor, it's not like an adult. it ends with one or two people. it goes through the whole school. the girl's mother says other students now taunt her daughter to no end. she cries; she's on my shoulder. i feel really bad. i really don't know what to tell her and how to handle it. the couple says officials offered to move their daughter to another school. they refused -- saying she shouldn't be punished. this happens so much. the school has to put its foot down and say we're no longer going to accept bullying at this school. the couple says the c-y-f-d investigation is pending a final home visit set for monday. we asked c-y-f-d about the case, but a spokeswoman says she can't give details due to privacy issues. a-p-s says it will look into the case and get back to us tomorrow.
