A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep by TravelPod blogger Toltmanns titled "Luang Prabang" Toltmanns’s travel blog entry: "2010-11-10: Arrived at the bus terminal at around 5:30am after a bumpy ride reminding me of the days back in Indonesia ;) Caught a tuk-tuk to the Thavisouk Guesthouse with the english girls and some other guys I met on the bus. The room costs 50000 Kip (ca. 5EUR) including hot shower and ventilator. After some sleep I went walking through the town and along the Mekong river to the top of the half island where it joins the Nam Khan river. Luang Prabang is a nice, quiet town with a lot of temples and one of the oldest temples in Laos which used to hold the remains of the former king in a kind of boat. In the evening the main road transforms into a massive market where they sell just about anything: clothes, pottery, machetes, food, etc. Had a really good buffalo steak and glass of wine and then went shopping. Bought a few buddha paintings and then went to bed early after reading a little. 2010-11-11: Got up and packed the paintings, went to the post-office and they told me I had to unpack everything and have it repacked by one of their employees. The guy sat at his desk and cut up a big carton and used the back of the knife to make the carves for the folds. Cut it all up neatly and taped everything together. Like in the good old days ;) Took a long time though... Then I had a baguette and fruit-shake ...
