Cambodia... so many things to say, so little time! One of the things that I find so strange about this country is that they deal mainly in American dollars as opposed to the Cambodian Riel.... you cannot get Cambodian Riel from a Bank machine. It makes buying things really annoying because most of the time you pay in dollars and they will give you your change in a mix of riel and dollars which for the first few days left us puzzling over how much what is worth and whether we were getting ripped off. People travel to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat.... that is the main attraction and our reason for being their as well. We did check out the town a bit... it is very hot, dusty... has some cute quirky shops and restaurants, and over all the people are very poor.You cannot walk anywhere without tuk tuk drivers, mototaxi drivers, beggars and children accosting you. You get used to it but it is hard. The beggars are the most difficult part. Cambodia has absolutely no social assistance program, it is not like beggars at home who need money for their habit, these people for the most part truly are in need.... and often have terrible handicaps such as missing limbs from land mine explosions.
