The route from Albrighton across the flats of Staffordshire & Cheshire was flatteringly easy and we felt we could travel the world like this! The sun shone on us and the wind was on our backs, so our arrival in Wybunbury for our first overnight stop came upon us suddenly and early. Day 2 took us across the centre of England's rail network just east of Crewe. We criss- crossed the M6 at least 3 times and crossed at least seven railway bridges over tracks all leading to Crewe where its still a case of "all change please" for rail travellers. It was a poignant day for us as my uncle Leicester Symons had just passed away in Barbeton in South Africa, and we cycled past Tabley House, the erstwhile country seat of Sir Peter Leycester (Bt) in the 1680's. Sir Peter is a distant relative and hence my uncle was named Leicester too in recognition of the connection. After a welcome cuppa in Knutsford we took the scenic route through Tatton Park along the lake, eventually crossing the Manchester Ship C**** on a very high and slightly rickety old bridge.
