Even with subzero temperatures returning to North Dakota - not everyone is disheartened by winter’s lingering. In fact, members of the 660 Ice Racers Club were out making the most of it. There are clubs nation wide that hold snowmobile drag races, but the 660 Ice Racers Club is one of a kind in North Dakota. The high tech NHRA light system is the same one used by professional drag racers to ensure split second finishes. Men, women and youth leagues totalled around fifty racers that paid their dues in hopes of winning the five thousand dollar first prize. The first race was held in January on the snow and this weekend's events are kept on ice. (Blair Lesy/Roblin, Manitoba) "Racing snow is one thing but racing ice is totally different. There's absolutely no spinning if you spin, you loose. But having said that there's no spinning, it is such a rush. It is such a pull out of the hole. And there's no friction. Some sleds here today will be hitting about 127 to 130 miles an hour." 660 Ice Racers Club is holding a two day event. Final scores will be tallied Sunday after the final race.
