The Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin and St Cuthbert of Durham - Durham Cathedral is the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Durham. The Bishopric dates from 995, with the present cathedral being founded in AD 1093. The cathedral is regarded as one of the finest examples of Norman architecture and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with nearby Durham Castle, which faces it across Palace Green. The Cathedral is the final resting place of St. Cuthbert & St. Bede..... Date built: 1093--1133 Architectural style: Romanesque Length: 469 feet (143 m) (interior) Central Tower: 218 feet (66 m) Western Towers: 144 feet (44 m) Used as a location in the early Harry Potter films, but due to production costs Warner Bros decided to build replicas of the sets, at the film studios.... Durham City its Cathedral & Castle are one of the best kept secrets in the UK if not the World. So if you ever get the chance to visit the City & the Cathedral, the city is small a day trip could cover the high-lights. I ran out of light on this particular day, but Durham is only six miles away from me, so I shall return soon to have another go...
