Gadget TV - Acer Iconia A500 video review

0 of 5 Stars
Acer’s first Android tablet, the A500, is an impressive showing from a raw specs perspective. It's got a dual-core 1GHz processor, a gig of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD card. Its 10-inch capacitive touch screen is responsive and reasonably bright. Acer has kept its modifications to Android to a minimum, which is a good thing. That said, we'd still rather see stock Android with few if any modifications. If it ain't broke, as the old saying goes. On the build side of things, we're a little less than impressed. The tablet feels like it may have been a little rushed in that phase of the R&D. That and / or less expensive materials were used in the construction in an effort to keep the price down, which Acer has succeeded in doing. The Acer Iconia A500 goes for $450; $50 cheaper than the base level iPad.

The Xperia Play, AKA the PlayStation phone is, as the name suggests, a dedicated gaming phone. It’s got decent smartphone specs and a current version of Android, but its main claim to fame is the game. And it plays well. As a smartphone it's unremarkable though on par with mid-range ...

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is the thinnest Android phone we’ve seen to date. It's true to the Arc name as the back of the device is slightly convex. Aside from looking good, this also makes it easier to grab the phone when it's laying on its back on the desk. While ...

On this week’s show, we take a look at the latest Android handset reference design rumour; let's call it Nexus Next. Microsoft cashing in on Android's success and Google Wallet; I'd tap that. Also, Kate Abraham shows us how to stay organized and on top of our to-do ...
