Two hours later, with aching feet, I finally sank into my leather seat on the bus and luckily sat next to some very funny boys. I then impressed these Americans and Germans who had been away from home for a while with my new video ipod. Happily watched Lost until the batteries died. Buses in Argentina are an interesting thing. It is about as different from Greyhound as it is possible to get (thank god). It is the primary way of getting around the country and as such, enjoys much more prominence than even airports in the US. Hundreds of companies exist to fill in this transportation demand in a country where a 14 hour bus ride seems short. Assuming that buses play such an important role one might assume that they are simple to use. You would be wrong. Each different company has their own booth in each bus station. Because the service is not centralized, or even organized, it is virtually impossible to purchase a ticket from Mendoza, say, unless you are actually located in Mendoza.
