The nice young man who managed to book us one night's accommodation on Lipe had also offered to sell us onward ferry tickets. We took him up on his offer as it was looking as if finding accommodation might already take up too much of our time on Lipe. As we were at the Tigerline checkin at the time we assumed that this would be a similar ferry. How wrong can you be. He must have been doing a bit of touting on the side. Eleven of us are whisked off the Lipe beach in the usual long-tail boat but it is not a boring old ferry which awaits us but a flash speedboat. No-one can believe their eyes as it's like a scene out of a James Bond film. We arrive in Langkawi at a very smart looking marina an hour later. Pulau Langkawi is Peninsular Malaysia's playground and during holidays is teeming with mainlanders heading to the beaches. That's fine; only we hadn't reckoned on Chinese New Year having any effect on the Malaysian holiday pattern and why should we?
