Love the long beaches and the atmosphere with Carnival week. It really is the cidade maravilhosa - marvelous city. The hotel is awesome - a hotel vs. good hostels. Best part is the safe so I don´t have to wear a money belt. Air con, swimming pool, sauna, gym, full on superb breakfast - not all bread! Went for a long walk to stretch our legs after a 25 hour bus ride. Ambled along Copacabana Beach in 38C heat and drank fresh juice. Yummo. Loads of buff bodies here. And all very tanned. Skimpy bikinis and budgie smugglers are the norm. Found the local tourism stand and booked a city tour via Jeep. R130 for 5 hours with an English speaking guide. I had my legs waxed for R14 - about $7 so 1/3 of what I pay in Aus. It is like a production line - small rooms with buckets of wax and wooden spatulas. I get to keep the tweezers they use to pluck random hairs. Early night after little sleep on the bus. The bus ride wasn´t too bad actually. The seats recline half way back and you have bits that flip up for your legs. Quite comfy. We were right at the back though and boy was it hot in the afternoon - despite the air con bus.
