September 17, 2009—Two Years Ago. She felt complete, whole even. Over the summer she had met the most perfect man on the planet! He was so sweet, considerate, smart—cute too! That was always a plus. Maria smiled looking at the photos that she and Alex had taken in August, just a few days before school had re-started. They were smiling, and laughing, and the last picture was what made Maria stop breathing. There, in the picture, she was leaning over kissing Alex full on the mouth. She remembered that day, so sweet and innocent was the kiss. Alex had made her feel like she was on the top of the world, almost as if she was the only girl in the world. Sighing, she set the pictures down next to her on the bed-side table drifting into a dreamful sleep. . . . . . April 19, 2011—Now. The tears slipped down her face uncontrollably. Ever heard the saying 'cry me a river?' Maria realized what the meaning of that sentence meant. She was so sad and angry that she punched the pillow and screamed into it. How could he?
