## Shot 11/15/2007. ## NEW MILFORD, Conn. — Row upon row of young trees were found late last month in New Milford with 3 to 4 feet lopped off of the tops. The tops of the trees were found scattered throughout the field and woods. 'It’s kind of devastating,' said Barbara Chappuis. 'It's so senseless. I mean it didn't do anybody any good -- kind of malicious.' Chappuis' son, Ray, who was killed in a car crash two years ago, had grown the trees from seedlings on land she owns and left them as a legacy to his two sons. 'I said to my grandson, 'Somebody must have used a chain saw.' He said, 'Gram, there are enough people up there, they would have heard a chain saw, and somebody might have reported it.' It would have taken hours and hours to cut them by hand,' Chappuis said.  A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the vandals responsible for cutting the trees.
