Photographer and filmmaker Veena Rao re-visits her now retired second grade teacher and her over 2,000 dolls who all live together in a vinyl sided house in an ?active adult community? deep in the heart of suburban Illinois. Via her dolls, who are all named, dressed and positioned all over the house and in every inch of her basement turned doll museum, we learn about the evolution of girls and society. When I was young you practiced being mommy... Barbie changed all that. Suddenly you had a doll that was well-endowed [and] the envy of all us who wanted to be thin and beautiful and weren’t. Lurking below the surface is the obvious and omnipresent problem: what will happen to Mrs. Henderson?s doll collection when she goes? Mrs. Henderson doesn?t know where they will go or to whom. She does know that the only way she will find peace of mind is knowing that they will be in a safe and comfortable place.
