Albuquerque Police arrest and charge two people in connection with the weekend stabbing death of an Albuquerque swim coach. 24 year old Michael Checkley was jumped by two strangers on Sunday morning and stabbed repeatedly. On the eve of his funeral, Checkley’s family says the rain is a perfect symbol for a man who spent ten years as a swim coach, before getting his real estate license just last week. "My son was life," said Checkley's mother, Marlene Lindstrand. But Michael Checkley's life itself is now just a memory. Police say he was stabbed to death over the weekend by two men he'd never even met. "He said it's too late. Michael's already dead. He was stabbed to death. They took his life. And at that point, something in me just died," Marlene Lindstrand said through tears. On Wednesday police arrested 27 year old Robert Sanchez and 26 year old Joe Allen in connection with Michael's murder. According to a search warrant, Michael and a friend were walking along Golf Course, near McMahon, when Sanchez and Allen approached. The four men got into a fight and that's when Michael was stabbed repeatedly. "He was doing nothing. He wasn't in the process of a crime. He wasn't dealing drugs. He wasn't a gangster. He was walking him and got jumped, for no reason. There's no motive behind this other than hate," Checkley's stepmother said. Family members say Michael always had a smile on his face. And he was always looking for the good in things. "Michael would just walk into a room, radiate the room and everybody would feed off of that," said Rudy Checkley, Michael's father.
