The third episode of Set It Up for the 2009-2010 season is based on the idea of the past, present, and future. All of the segments are personal stories from youth in Set It Up. The first segment is about where someone came from. In "Liberia," we follow the difficult journey Vermul’s family took as they escaped the war in Liberia in hopes of a safer life in America. You also get to hear about how the war impacted Liberia as well as goals for education and the future from the perspective of both Liberian teens and adults. In the second segment, we hear about the neighborhood where someone lives now.The Liberty Plaza housing complexes are on the outskirts of downtown St. Paul. The producers interviewed some of the youth residents to gain insight on some of what makes this place attractive, especially for kids. The youth focused on some of the changes they noticed within the community. The producers also found that the primary places to "hang out" are the community center, where kids are allowed to do their homework, and the basketball court. In the final segment, we take a look at an issue that one youth wants to see change in the future. This segment is about a Set It Up crew member and how he was affected by gang violence. The segment describes how gang violence has affected the East side of Saint Paul, and touches upon how things might change for the better.
