Mentions of hurricanes, guard dogs and such can be distracting from how incredible a place we`re in and how much we`re learning about the world. That said, Lima has some of the most difficult streets to walk down in the world. I wouldn´t say people walk faster than in NYC, but certainly more aggressively, and they certainly stare more intently, which kind of encourages you to move along, to say the least. Once you get past the staring, Limeños are a friendly, open, and patient people, especially considering how many needy tourists they must deal with on a daily basis. Today we spent some time, okay, all day, walking up and down the streets of Miraflores. After spending most of the morning figuring out how to change our dollars out for nuevo soles (exchange rate is about 2.98 nuevo soles per 1 dollar), and find a phone card to call some of you guys, we walked down to Larco Mar, a new modern shopping center built to appeal to Lima`s swelling western tourist population. The Pacific ocean was beautiful, the restaurants were expensive, and the paragliders looked amazing. See for yourself in some of the pics.
