I was excited that the "Playful Partners" room we stayed in had almost the exact same wallpaper that was in my room at my parents' house as a kid. But the best part was that the hotel leaves the doors to unoccupied rooms open during the day so guests can see the other options for next time. We especially liked the Railroad room and also the "Candlelight Caboose" they've turned into a private suite in the yard! Oh wait, I also loved the Elevator room in which the original elevator shaft stands over a whirlpool tub. Basically the entire hotel was just really well decorated, with all kinds of original pieces throughout. Check out the old phone booth and the fans in the lobby! We were intrigued when we saw the current owner's wall of running paraphernalia - he competes regularly in alpine and ultra events like the Hard Rock 100. Crazy! I noticed that this year they are reserving all of their rooms for a week at discounted rates for staff and runners, which is really nice. The hotel also runs a shuttle service to the nearby Durango-Silverton Railroad, so guests can ride the train into town, spend the night ...
