WICR began broadcasting in 1962 with ten watts of power. Today, the station offers a wide variety of public radio programming that reaches across central Indiana. In 2004, the station began broadcasting in HD Radio. It also streams its programming from the station website. WICR is a student run radio station overseen by the student management members and full time faculty members. Students enrolled in the Applied Radio course at the university are responsible for weekly shifts, producing shows, sports broadcasting, and updating the web site. The station is licensed to the University of Indianapolis Board of Trustees. The station’s main signal extends from northern Monroe County, to parts of Columbus, Muncie and West Lafayette, and in some parts of Marion, Indiana.
