If anyone has seen the cat lady in The Simpsons who throws cats as passers by, that was this lady in real life! There were seven cats in the hostel, one of which I think was actually hers, and the other six were from different litters from strays. She loved the cats, but handled them in an unusual way; for example, she dragged one of them by the tail to bring it closer, then picked it up by the scruff of its neck and back, and unsurprisingly, it struggled to get away! I spent the Friday pottering around town, getting my bearings and planning what I wanted to do in Miri. As my 30th birthday was the next day, I had envisioned going to the world's largest cave, but a night out of drinking, dancing and Karaoke with a few people from the hostel resulted in my getting up late, having a hangover, and doing very little! I went to the cinema to watch Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's new film Race To Witch Mountain, which ended up being one of the worst cinema experiences I've ever had. The film didn't seem to be all that good, but the sound was so poor I couldn't understand half of what they said (the Malaysian subtitles did little to aid me), and the picture was blurry.
