This was my first-ever bird nest that produced babies, and it was not without problems. The birdhouse got knocked off about an hour or so before I took this video. I saw one, maybe two near-fledglings, one hopping (this one) and possibly one in a nearby tree. I was devastated to see this scene. It was a nightmare come true. This one was hunkered down in the grass hiding. I picked him up and put the birdhouse back where it was and put him back in it. At first he flew away to a small crape myrtle and had to grab him and try to put him back in again. He finally went in and stayed for about 30 minutes. Eventually, he tried to look out and was wanting to leave. I hoped an adult chickadee parent would come back for him, but didn’t see any except for when I was trying to get the bird and the birdhouse back where it was. Later I saw a neighbor's car looking up in a tree and jump high. That's when I came back outside and saw the cat was trying to get this bird that was in the tree. I decided it was best to grab him and take him inside out of harm's way until I could locate an adult chickadee parent. Trying to feed him proved extremely difficult, because he wouldn't open his mouth much or try to eat other than to call for his parents. Even so it was impossible to drop a small seed in his mouth. Later I used canned dog food, mixed slightly with water to get it mushy, warmed it up a little and used a straw to deliver the food, although a little on the hand putting it up to his bill <b>...</b>
