Following extensive media coverage last night and this morning of the attack on the Hotel Inter-Continental in Kabul, Afghanistan yesterday, the InterContinental Hotels Group (NYSE:IHG) released a statement today reiterating that they have not owned the hotel since shortly after the 1979 Soviet invasion of the country.Nine members of the Taliban, all of whom were killed, conducted the attack on the hotel, which began late last night. They killed seven civilians, one of whom was a Spanish citizen, and two Afghani police officers. Two members of New Zealand’s special forces who responded to the attack "received moderate injuries," the New Zealand military said.The Intercontinental Hotels Group said their thoughts at this time are with all of the people affected by this tragedy, and respectfully requested that in future reports, where possible, to make it clear that they did not own the hotel.IHG, listed on the London Stock Exchange, is the world's largest hotel company with 4,400 hotels in over 100 countries.Shares of Intercontinental Hotels Group are trading up 1.28% at $20.59.
