June 9, 2011 - 10 Ways To Become An Excellent Researcher and Valuable Member of Your Lab is a lecture in which Dr. Renetta G. Tull Ph.D (Assist. Dean @ UMBC, Dir. PROMISE) takes from previous experience and voices ways to improve oneself sense of self in the workforce and academia through communication. Using her unending pursuit of excellence, Dr. Tull begins the interactive lecture by asking all students to take notes and warning the audience that they will be communicating at one point within the seminar. She asks the audience for a brief introduction and an academic asset that they have to offer and uses these responses to further encourage them to become more active in their fields. In this lecture, Dr. Tull touches on ten key points: 1. Don’t be intimidated. 2. Overcome Fear. 3. Understand the Culture. 4. Break through Barriers. 5. Cross-Train. 6. Combat Shyness. 7. Play well with others. 8. Produce & Perform. 9. Be responsible. 10. Show & Prove.
