I teach this simple beat to my beginning drum students. It’s the first beat they learn to play. The idea is to learn it well, and practice playing it along with music as soon as possible. Pick several songs of varying tempos (speeds) and styles to play with, and try to keep the beat going throughout the whole song, even if the drummer or the whole band stops for a few beats. This exercise is a great introduction to drumming.
