SAANICH - A Saanich woman says she’s lucky she wasn't hurt, after she and her dog were stalked by a deer. It happened in Gordon Head Tuesday morning. Barb Sharp was walking her dog Norton when she spotted a doe and her three fawns. She says the mother chased her and her dog — and tried to attack them. They took shelter behind a truck. Eventually a neighbour pulled up, and Barb hopped in her car. Norton got loose though, and was trampled by the deer. He wasn't badly hurt. Saanich Police and Conservation Officers looked for the aggressive animal, but couldn't find her. Conservation Officers have the power to decide what should happen to deer that pose a threat to the community. The Province is considering a deer cull in some communities with large populations, including Nanaimo.
