Miguel Martinez studied Music Education at the University of Art and Sciences in Chiapas, Mexico, where he is originally from. For most of his adult life Miguel has lived in Veracruz, where he studied classical flute at la Universidad Veracruzana. There he participated as the co-principal flautist in the State Band of Veracruz and as soloist in many different national orchestras and duo ensembles. Miguel recently received a certificate of recognition for his invaluable contribution to the flourishing of son montuno in Mexico. In 2001, Miguel traveled to Cuba to take Latin Music master’s classes with the world-renowned musicians René Beltrán and Freddy Martines. Miguel has also participated in master's classes in Cuban Son, with teachers such as Luis Ángel Silva Melón and John Calloway, as well as Latin Jazz courses with Professors from the Berklee School of Music such as Victor Mendoza, Jim Odgrem and Bernardo Hernández. Miguel is new to the Bay Area, he has played with Latin musicians such as Anthony Blea, Carlos Caro, Saul Sierra, John Calloway, Jesus Diaz and Michael Spiro, Karl Perazzo and many more.
