In this talk, Barry Norton gives an introduction to the semantic technologies that are applied in many of the approaches presented in the bootcamp. The emphasis is on the technologies applied in Linked Data and in associated lightweight APIs and services. Particular attention is paid to aspects relevant to the developing world, such as internationalisation and open datasets. As well as the principles used in exposing datasets as Linked Data, an introduction is given to developing notion of Linked Service, and how the advantages of semantic technologies can be so extended.
