In a "The First 48" video from the episode "Live to Tell", Dallas detectives Ken Penrod and Scott Sayer investigate the murder of Patrick Smith and send their team to look for the murder weapon in the dumpster. Dallas detectives Robert Quirk, Armando Perez, Rick Duggan and a team of rookies found the knife used to kill Patrick Smith and injure his fiancé in the dumpster.  Smith’s fiancé later went on to identify the suspects as Rondell Allen, Nathaniel Allen, and Royal Cola.
