Brand-spankin'-new. That’s what you are as a justified saint of God. You are a new creation in Christ Jesus, a possessor of eternal life, alive forevermore, and qualitatively new. Paul is writing you to remind you to live like it. In an admixture of positional truth and practical doctrine the Apostle is exhorting Christians to walk away from the graveside where the old self is buried. His words remind us of the spiritual blindness and degradation we once lived in. He invokes the name of the Lord as he intensifies our call to no longer live as those who are still dead in their sins. He gives us a resounding affirmation to the question of whether or not it is important how we live. This passage reminds us that we are to live in a manner worthy of those who have been called by grace and justified through the blood of Jesus Christ. May the listener focus intently as this sermon reminds us of the great and grave darkness which imprisons all people outside of Jesus Christ. May our hearts cherish the amazing grace shown unto us which brought us out of bondage and into life. May our compassion for those still entombed in their sin be raised. To God be all the glory, to the Christian be all awareness that we have been saved to walk anew.
