We arrived quiet late on 3 January and met our new tour leader, James. We headed to the Red Garden Night Markets, which is a big outdoor food court, where you order food from different stations and they deliver to your table. Beer is very cheap and they have music/singing. Penang is so cool. We are staying in Georgetown and there are funky bars etc around us. Yesterday we headed out for a walking tour with our leader. We walked past Love Lane, the notorious "red" light district. Down Harmony Street which has lots of different religious temples. We visited a Chinese temple, Quong Yin Temple with its huge pink joss sticks out the front, and worships the Goddess of Mercy. On to the Teo Chew Klang House, which is a family ancestral place of worship, which has been heritage listed. We wandered through little India and visited the Sri Maha temple. We were blessed by having red powder dotted on our head. This was a blessing until you were married. We stopped off at a cart for fresh samosas which were delicious and continued on down towards the water past the Padang, Town Hall and City Hall. We then visited Fort Cornwallis before lunching again at a cheap food court. Today the weather is very very hot and I was flagging from it.
