The residents of Bernkastel-Kues in south-west Germany call it the monster: a road bridge in the Mosel region. The idea is to ease traffic and accelerate economic development in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The problem though is that the bridge cuts right through some of the world’s most famous Riesling vineyards - and wine growers are up in arms.
