After the Worlds we went North to Boca Barranca where the Worlds were held 10 years ago. It's a fast left-hander, a point-break (nice change after 3 weeks of beach breaks). Unfortunately it was very small. We stayed in a posh, all-inclusive hotel: pools, buffet meals, beach volleyball and a massage right at the beach! Then we drove another few of the crazy Costa Rican roads, in the dark and in the rain, to the Pacuare River east of San Jose. From the raft center we were driven to the get-in, first by bus and then by tractor and trailer because it was so steep. We saw our first snake on the way. It didn't move so we suspect that it's a fake put there for tourists ;-) The first 8 miles of the river weren't too hard, grade 3, some nice bouncy rapids with a few big holes. Of course it was raining, we were in the rain forest after all. We saw a racoon, a sloth and a few birds and butterflies, but no monkeys :-( We stayed in a lodge halfway down the river. It's a beautiful set up: a few cabins with nice rooms, a kitchen and dining area, a hammock area (there were always fights for the hammocks) and all hidden away in the rain forest right beside the river. Because of the rain we couldn't go on a hike, too slippy. The next day the sun was shining so we did another canopy tour ...
