In order to cope with his son’s death, Alvaro Ibañez began working on a series of large oil paintings in his honor for an October exhibition at Art Works in Richmond. Finished and unfinished pieces may be viewed at the museum along with a collection of 33 of the many religious illustrations created by Carlos Humberto Ibañez. "This exhibit is intended to draw attention to the suffering of families and victims of violence," says Denise DeVries, wife of Alvaro Ibañez and Carlos's stepmother. "Carlos accomplished so much in his life, but the world has lost his amazing potential." "We encourage responsible gun use by allowing hunting on our property," states Ibañez, "but when that man fired his weapon, he killed a whole family. Our lives were changed forever."
