We were at the viewing point about 40mins before sunrise & we got a brilliant light show of blues and reds as Uluru was silhouetted against the sky. When the sun finally came up we got more great views, as the orange became more prolific, and then finally bright blue sky. Thom is very proud of his sunrise picture, and it has become our desktop wallpaper for the last 5 days!!! After sunrise we went to Kata Tjuta for the 8km Valley of the Winds walk. Kata Tjuta is nowhere near as spectacular as Uluru, but the walk was really good all the same - because it was so windy meant there weren't many flies, so that was always a good thing! In the afternoon, after burgers for 30 split between 10 of us, we walked around Uluru itself. Dave the Legend gave us a guided tour of the Mala Walk, which is the 'coming of age' ceremony for Aboriginal boys, before they are deemed strong enough etc to hunt kangaroos for themselves. The 9km took us all around the base of the walk. The Japanese girl on the trip annoyed us all severely at this point: She refused to drink any water at all in 35degree heat. Dave was getting really stressed at this point, because if she'd collapsed due to heat exhaustion etc, then it would have been his responsibility to get her to hospital & ruin the tour for the ...
