The United States is one of the largest polluters in the world, and the U.S. State that produces the most pollution Texas. The state’s capital, Austin, has always marched to the beat of its own drum, and its environmental policy is proof of this. For example, Austin offers large tax breaks to citizens who install home solar panels, bringing the total cost of conversion down to 6,000 dollars. Full solar conversion can run upwards of 20,000 dollars per house without tax breaks, so the city is offering a huge incentive to go solar. Considering how much sun Austin gets in a year, conversions pay for themselves in energy savings quickly, which has encouraged many Austinites to take the city up on the tax break. Austin has also started an active campaign of marketing, lobbying, and promoting plug in hybrid vehicles to government agencies and potential customers. Additionally, Austin has taken steps to cut down on carbon emissions in public buildings, with an aggressive plan to achieve zero emissions by 2020. It's further proof why you shouldn't mess with Texas. I'm Elizabeth Chambers. Check back here for more eco friendly news and tips, right here on LivingGreenChannel.Com.
