We hung out with super-junglist Goldie backstage at the Arches, London Bridge, just before his performance at the Metalheadz 15th anniversary.In the clip, Goldie talks about the manifesto of Metalheadz and its intergrity and musicality. Always relevant since the dawn of D’n'B, he chats fondly about how things have changed over those epic 15 years.Goldie didn’t have a very conventional childhood. He was raised in children’s homes and various foster homes and has spent much of his adult life escaping his demons (his words). In the last few years he has had therapy and found peace with himself and now steers clear of the vices of his past. The homes weren’t all bad though. He learnt to fend for himself and the kids looked out for each other. He developed his love for break-dancing and graffiti (continued into his artistic creations now) back then. He’s had a long and varied career, from making jewellery (he used to make his own gold teeth, hence the name) to acting for a stint in Eastenders, but more impressively, in James Bond film, ‘The World is Not Enough’, and Guy Ritchie’s ‘Snatch’. Not only that but his former girlfriends include the likes of Naomi Campbell and Björk.For the last couple of years, Goldie (Clifford Joseph Price, a more apt name for this part of his career) has entered a new phase of musical creativity and has been writing classical tracks. He’s even re-writing his entire ‘Timeless’ double album for the BBC Youth Orchestra, which will be ready for the end of the year. This came about after he came second in reality TV show competition, ‘Maestro’, when he learned how to conduct an orchestra, after not even being able to read music!He’s not about to hang up his headphones yet though, especially since discovering the CDJ-2000s. He still loves his drum and bass and continues to tour with gigs such as Metalheadz at Cable, London on Saturday 13 March and Ram with Andy C at Matter, London on Friday 2 April.
