Not Funny Any More "I headed north about three hours from El Calafate to El Chalten which is the self-proclaimed "national trekking capital of Argentina" and the entry point to the northern part of the "Los Glacieres" national park (my previous stopover of El Calafate and the Moreno Glacier were the southern section). The star attraction of the trekking in the area are the mountains and more specifically the famous peaks of Torre and Fitzroy but unfortunately in my three days here in El Chalten I didnt see them at all ! An Aussie girl I met on the Torres del Paine trek had come up here earlier than me and had enjoyed a day of clear weather & got to see the peaks so I decided to head up here to El Chalten . But to no avail it seems she just got lucky with one day and the usual Patagonian weather was here to greet me - cold , wind , rain and snow. It really is a quite malevolent phenomenon... when you are just thinking in your head "I wish the rain would ease off" it just pelts you twice as hard , or if you are thinking to yourself "I wish the wind would die down" it will batter you with an enormous gust that nearly blows you off your feet.
