So, of course, Juan starts his celluloid work. Every true-blue film restorer has one goal in mind: running his film through a purring film projector. There are few sounds more beautiful. His work and his reward are one: recapturing the past which was almost lost to the ravages of time. Fantastic. Making old films run again is an art. It is careful craftsmanship. The computer has made the job easier and quicker, but being able to judge the value of the light on a shot still needs a trained eye, a professional. Scene changes demand special attention. sometimes you have to study the film frame by frame. Only then will you end up with a quality piece of work. You type your findings into the computer and the data appears later on punched tape. That's how easy it is to restore old films. But that's not the whole truth. The work put into making the film look like film is another story. Not only in this 'lab' but also in the film workshops of the Netherlands Film Museum. This is where the film gets its first treatment.
