This short film stands up to make a statement about the disappearance of Jèrriaise, the Norman French dialect spoken in Jersey. The production counts with original soundtrack of the band No Direction. The film shows the train journey between terminals in Gatwick Airport, the main airport connection between Jersey and the UK. Travelling in this multicultural train with people from different places of the world, where the Jersey local dialect is dying in silence. Written and filmed with several layers. The visual journey shows the people inside the wagon, the view to the outside of the airport and the tunnel itself. The sound tracks include voices of the people talking in the train, the noise of the train, a lady talking Jerriaise, the background of the sound of the beach recorded in Jersey and the song “Cocrodile Smile”, original music of the band “No Direction”. This simple piece reflects a social reality that is not being discussed openly in the Media and is not being intensively promoted in Jersey. Only a very few number of students are learning Jerriaise and only very elderly people know it as a first language. Cultural changes have been taken place in the island and Jerriase was first replaced by what they call “good” French, but has been the introduction of English what is vanishing any trace of this local dialect. Jersey French is on the edge of extinction and nobody seems to have notice. Is there a light at the end of this tunnel?
