Prof Lodovico Balducci speaks to ecancertv about the Senior Adult Oncology Program he leads at the Moffitt Cancer Center. This programme was established to improve the treatment options available for older cancer patients and to help clinicians recognise that older patients do not necessarily have poor treatment outcomes and that age should be seen as a physiological rather than a chronological event. Prof Balducci outlines the issues that clinicians must take into account when treating older cancer patients, such as social problems and increased levels of adverse effects, discusses the number of clinical trials involving older cancer patients and identifies the degree of work that still needs to be done to improve the treatment of older cancer patients.
